GEAR UP’s commitment is to working with parents and enabling them to “Send their Students to College for Free!” This audacious goal is ultimately achieved through a combination of calculated planning implemented by the joint efforts of the students, their parents, and the educational system. A student’s academic success is the essential element in this process in order to obtain a free college education. Over the course of this 7-year grant cycle, GEAR UP will provide parents with the tools needed to help their students be successful in school, prepare for college entrance requirements, and become focused on their future career endeavors.

Parents interested in building or strengthening their students’ academic profiles are encouraged to participate in the monthly GEAR UP events. With the assistance of digital tools, many parent collaboration sessions are provided online and can be accessed on-demand. The most advantageous method for being apprised of upcoming events is to follow GEAR UP on social media. Event notifications and registration links are first posted on these networking sites.

Parent Council

Many GEAR UP student projects are initiated by our parents. Who knows more about the needs of their students than their parents? GEAR UP is interested in hearing from you and enabling your input in future students events. The GEAR UP Parent Council meets quarterly to discuss upcoming projects, plan future projects, and network. All parents are encouraged to attend and help facilitate the achievements of all our GEAR UP students. The 2018-19 topics will heavily target student volunteer projects and summer internship opportunities.
Meeting Dates: September 26, TBA

Location: DeSoto High School Auditorium
